How to ride the Jose Cuervo Express

The Jose Cuervo Express is a Saturday day trip of about 11 hours between Guadalajara and the town of Tequila. You ride the train one way and a bus the other, and the day includes the La Rojeña distillery, the agave fields and free time in Tequila. Tickets run from MXN 3,250 to MXN 4,810 depending on the class.

How the day runs

There are two itineraries, both about 11 hours. Times are the company's approximate times.

Sunrise route: check in at the Ferromex station from 8:00 AM. The train leaves at 9:00 AM, a guided tasting runs at 10:00 AM, and the train reaches Tequila at 11:00 AM. You enter Mundo Cuervo at 11:35 AM for the Juan Beckmann Gallardo Cultural Center and La Rojeña, then have free time from 1:00 PM. A Mexican show starts at 4:15 PM. You leave for the agave fields at 5:10 PM for a jima demonstration, board the bus at 6:45 PM and reach Casa Cuervo EDISA in Tlaquepaque at about 8:00 PM.

Sunset route: the bus leaves Casa Cuervo EDISA at 9:00 AM and reaches the agave fields at 10:30 AM. Mundo Cuervo and La Rojeña follow at 12:45 PM, free time at 2:00 PM and the show at 4:15 PM. You leave for the station at 5:20 PM, the train departs Tequila at 6:00 PM, and it reaches the Ferromex station in Guadalajara at about 8:00 PM.

On the Sunrise route the bus does not return to the train station. It ends at Casa Cuervo EDISA in San Pedro Tlaquepaque, so plan your ride home from there.

Booking

Book on the Mundo Cuervo site, which sells through Peek, by phone on +52 374 742 6729, or in person at the Tequila World stores in the Camino Real Guadalajara (Av. Vallarta 5005) and the Hilton Guadalajara (Av. de las Rosas 2933). The terms say these are the only official sales channels and that tickets bought elsewhere are not refunded.

Bring the printed confirmation, proof of payment and an official photo ID. If you paid by card, the cardholder must be present with the card.

Tickets are not refundable. A date change asked for at least 24 hours ahead costs 10% at 30 days out, 15% at 14 to 29 days, 25% at 7 to 13 days and 50% at 1 to 6 days. Changing the itinerary costs 10%.

Children under 6 ride free without a seat. Minors may not buy or drink alcohol and must stay with an adult.

Getting to the station

The train leaves from the Ferromex station at Av. Circunvalación Agustín Yáñez 11, Colonia Moderna, Guadalajara.

Be at the boarding gate at least 1 hour before departure. Boarding closes 20 minutes before departure, and a missed train is not refunded.

On the Sunset route you start by bus from Casa Cuervo EDISA, El Mante 8502, San Pedro Tlaquepaque; arrive 1 hour early there too.
