Guadalajara to Tequila
The town of Tequila is about 65 km (40 miles) from Guadalajara on the Vallarta highway, 45 minutes to 1 hour by car. You can also go by the Jose Cuervo Express train on Saturdays or by Tequila Plus bus from the old central bus station.

By car
Casa Sauza gives the distance from Guadalajara to Tequila as about 65 km by the Vallarta highway (MEX-15), and the drive as 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on traffic. It suggests leaving extra time at weekends and in high season.
Amatitán and El Arenal sit on the way, with distilleries open to visitors in both.
By train
The Jose Cuervo Express runs on Saturdays between the Ferromex station in Guadalajara and Tequila. One leg is by train and the other by bus, and the day lasts about 11 hours with a La Rojeña visit included. Classes cost MXN 3,250 to MXN 4,810.
Herradura's visit page does not mention a train, so it is not listed here.
By bus
Tequila Plus runs buses from Guadalajara to El Arenal, Amatitán, Tequila and Magdalena. Fares on its site from the Antigua Central Camionera include IVA. Seniors with an INSEN or INAPAM card and children pay MXN 80 one way to Tequila.
The Guadalajara stops are the Central Vieja, Dr. R. Michel 275, Sala A, platform 2 (entrance on Av. Los Ángeles), and the Zapopan stop at Prol. Av. Vallarta 650-B. In Tequila the stop is at Francisco y Madero 150, two blocks from the Glorieta del Jimador. In Amatitán it is at Calz. del Carmen 82, local 5 (Parador Turístico).

By private driver or tour
Some distilleries sell their own transport. Mundo Cuervo's Route of Origin is a 9-hour day from Guadalajara to Tequila for MXN 1,900. Prices for private drivers vary and are not listed here.
A World Heritage landscape
UNESCO inscribed the Agave Landscape and Ancient Industrial Facilities of Tequila in 2006. The site lies between the foothills of the Tequila Volcano and the valley of the Río Grande, and takes in the blue agave fields and the towns of Tequila, Arenal and Amatitán with their distilleries.
