Where ships dock

Cruise ships berth at the Hutchison Ports ECV cruise terminal in the port of Ensenada. It has two docking piers, 168 m and 183 m long.

The terminal faces the Riviera del Pacífico Cultural Center, a short distance from the city center, and is 110 km south of the US border.

Shuttles, tour operators and agents at the terminal offer transport to the city center and tours.

Getting to the valley

Carnival's Wine Country Tour lists a 45 to 50 minute bus drive from the ship to the valley. The tour visits L.A. Cetto and lasts 4.5 hours in all.

The valley lies about 20 km (12 miles) north of Ensenada, on the Tecate to Ensenada road (Mexico 3). El Cielo's site also gives 20 km from Ensenada.

Wineries nearest Ensenada

Of the wineries listed here, the two in San Antonio de las Minas have the highest kilometer posts on the Tecate to Ensenada road (km 89 and km 93.5), the end of the wine route nearest Ensenada.

Both need a reservation. Casa de Piedra asks for requests 48 hours ahead and opened Thursday to Saturday in summer 2026. Clos de Tres Cantos opens Wednesday to Sunday.

On ship-sold tours

Carnival's valley wine tour stops at L.A. Cetto for a 30-minute guided tour and a tasting of four wines.

The timing problem

A port day is short, and the valley is close to an hour away by road each way.

Most wineries work by reservation, at set times, and several open only some days: Viñas de Garza Friday to Sunday, Clos de Tres Cantos Wednesday to Sunday. Check the day your ship is in port before you book.

One winery visit, or two close together, fits a port day. A full valley day does not.

Other excursions from the pier

La Bufadora is a marine blowhole where waves force water up out of a sea cave. Carnival's blowhole tour takes 4 hours, with about 1.5 hours at the site and its open-air market.

In town, the Riviera del Pacífico Cultural Center stands in front of the cruise terminal.

Back on board

Carnival states that on excursions bought through Carnival, the ship stays in port until all guests on those tours are back, even if a tour runs late.

If you make your own arrangements, or leave an organized excursion, it is up to you to get back to the ship on time. Carnival is not aware of tours booked independently.

Children aged 12 to 17 may join Carnival's wine tour but must stay outside the tasting area with an adult.
